Question by Angela: Please explain to me why signs are posted all around town, “I buy junk cars…”?
…and “I buy ugly houses,” etc. I understand that unwanted junk cars and houses can be used for parts, can be renovated & resold, etc. But how could anyone make a profit by paying more for something than it’s worth in the first place?

They don’t pay more than they can sell it for. They can pay more than it is worth to the current owner. Especially if the current owner just wants to get rid of it.

A junk car is worth about $ 150-350 just for scrap steel. If they sell the parts individually it could be worth a couple of thousand dollars.

Just a random question.
I would pay off all of my parents debts and then buy us a gorgeous home that was big enough for all 7 (possibly soon-to-be 8?) of us, plus our 6 pets.
Then I would buy my parents and siblings and me some clothes, coats, and boots. and I would buy my mom her car that she’s been dreaming of, and buy my dad his own car again (he had to sell his so we could pay off a credit card and a few other debts,) because he really misses having his own car.
Then I would put the rest in my savings account in case of an emergency!
I know most people would probably put “and donate to charity,” which I would love to be able to do, but I was raised to put God first, family second, others third, and after buying all that there might be nothing left. And buying all those things would be helping us all out in a too many ways to even imagine, because our living situation is incredibly hard, like many families’ lives are due to our FABULOUS economy.

So what would you do, if you won a million dollars?!
I don’t want any stupid answers, I just want to know what you would do. I don’t need to be told about taxes, I know about them and I know that after taxes and tithing (religion thing) there would probably be no way we could actually get ALL that. But this is just a FUN question, ever heard of fun? It’s when you relax and don’t be a total hard-ass. Just pretend taxes and everything don’t exist, and think about what YOU would do if you got a million dollars, not critisizing a stranger for what she would do.

An 18 year old today would need 2.5 million by age of 65 to retire above poverty level

Note: If you won a million the taxes would be right about 50%
35% federal, then state, local and city taxes
That leaves you with a measly $ 500,000

And if it’s a lottery you would only get 1/2 of that 1 million
then pay taxes on that 1/2, for a total of only about $ 250,000
